Maintenance and Repair

A good deal of the work on my bench is maintenance and repair of existing lutes. Lutes need care, always. This can run from improving peg function, to fingerboard straightening and re-fretting, to re-gluing bridges, ribs, braces and fixing gaps in bellies and other repairs.

It is really worthwhile to have an older, or second hand, lute looked at to improve set up and comfort for the new owner. Think: improving action height, changing string spacing at the nut and/or the bridge, a different nut etc. It is my firm belief that a lute set up as well as it can be will give any player a much better playing experience. This is especially true for the beginning lute student. An experienced and/or professional player may have very specific requirements for set-up according to their hands and comfort.

Quotes for maintenance, repair and set up are done by consultation and/or appointment only. I occasionally visit the greater Toronto and Hamilton area which may be of assistance in getting an instrument to my shop here in London. Please be in touch by email.
